Obituary of Clair Duhig

CHARLES ST. CLAIR (CLAIR) DUHIG April 22, 1924 – December 14, 2016 Charles St. Clair Duhig passed away in Orillia, Ontario, in his sleep on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. He was 92 years old. He was predeceased by his son Michael in 2010, by his wife Peggy of 60 years in 2012, and by his brother Norman and sister Yvonne. Clair was a wonderful father to David (Yvonne), Karen (Tom) and Lisa; and to six amazing grandchildren: Mitchell, John (Megan), Marshall, Kate, Janet and Ben (Miranda). “I’ve had a good run of it” were among his last words. Indeed, Clair had a full and fruitful life. Born on April 22, 1924, and raised in Toronto, he made a lifelong career in insurance, interrupted only by service in the RCAF during WWII. He rose through the ranks of the Glens Falls Insurance Company, becoming the Canadian manager in the 1960s. In 1973, Clair opened his own insurance brokerage, and was still active with the firm into his 80s. “Insurance with Integrity” was the Clair-Duhig Insurance motto, and it epitomized everything he stood for. Clair will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family wishes especially to thank the staff at Birchmere Retirement Residence, where he lived during the past year, for their kindness, compassion and friendship to Clair. Memorial donations may be made on the website of the Simcoe Funeral Home, Orillia Chapel, to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation, Dialysis Unit or to The Kidney Foundation of Canada. There will be a celebration of life this Sunday, December 18, 1:30 p.m., at Birchmere Retirement Residence, 234 Bay Street, Orillia, Ontario L3V 3W8. Parking onsite is limited, but additional parking is available on the opposite side of Bay Street, or in the Couchiching Beach Park parking lot one block away.
