Black, Herbert Alden
Passed away peacefully from pancreatic cancer at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Sunday November 24th, 2019 in his 76th year. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Osborne) for 49 years. Proud and loving father of Heather Brown (Garry), and the late Harold Black. Grandfather of the late James Brown. Honoured Uncle of Jason Watt. Cherished friend of Scott & Marg Duncan and family. Herb was born and raised in Foxmead and lived on his farm since he was 14 and loved working with the animals and with his John Deere tractors especially his 2 cylinders AR, BR, 630 and 830. Herb was a kind spirit and brought joy to those that he met with a smile and an occasional laugh. Herb was a founding member #6 of Severn Township Firehall #2 in 1969 and a volunteer firefighter for 22 years. Herb worked at Uhthoff Quarry for 10 years and worked at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for 28 years. Herb and Helen have been dealers for Jones Feed Mill from Linwood for over 30 years and actively involved in 4-H as a member showing Shorthorn steers down at the Royal Winter Fair in the Queen’s Guineas competition and as a Leader for over 27 years. Herb loved the farm life and enjoyed sharing the bounties of his harvest. Herb loved the Lord and going to church whether it was Coldwater United, Hillside, Alliance, Severn Falls or the Christian Fellowship Chapel helping out in the Awana program and with the Half Century Club.
Visitation will be held at the Simcoe Funeral, 38 James St. E Orillia on Wednesday November 27th, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Thursday November 28th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday November 29th at 11:00 a.m. Followed by a reception. Interment St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery, Orillia. We would like to thank Bev Watt and Marg Duncan for the medical support provided with his cancer treatments, the staff from RVH Cancer Care unit especially Dr. Singh.
