An Amazing Woman Dee Cox was an inspiration to say the least. She would light up a room, when she entered, with that fantastic smile. She gave me inspiration when I was studding with the endless courses at Lambton College. Herb you and Dee touched so many hearts. You both left a lasting impression on so many. You have no idea how loved you are. Ron Hughes is on the other side and will welcome her and take care of her till you get there, smile. Of course there will be music, a lot of music. And Ron will bring his famous potato salad. God bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing your red head with us. Love, Karen Hughes

Dee Cox was a tiny, red-headed bundle of energy. She worked harder, walked faster and dreamed up more ideas than most people I have known. I met her when I joined a team of 6 people, all from different colleges, responsible for the training of new college teachers. Largely because of her example and unofficial leadership (although she would never have admitted that), the team functioned amazingly well and developed some outstanding teaching/training innovations.
But three of us from the team clicked, as they say, and Dee and Linda and I came to share a friendship outside of the college group as well. After retirement we continued to meet regularly, although not quite as often, usually at one of our homes for a weekend or few days of fun and friendship. We shared our thoughts, wrestled through our family and life changes, supported each other through tragedies and triumphs….and always laughed ourselves silly.
Twelve months ago the gathering was supposed to be at my house, but news of Dee's diagnosis of ovarian cancer changed our routine. Over the year we visited her at her home in Orillia, as she worked through the surgery, the chemo, the radiation and ultimately the experimental drugs. We worried about the failures at each step, but refused to give up hope in light of Dee's own relentless optimism.
In late January we had what turned out to be our final gathering. It was obvious that the energy was fading and the disease was winning. Linda and I stayed at a B & B that visit to spare the work of having guests and to give Dee time for rest. It was a subdued reunion, companionable but sad, with gentle conversation and quiet recollections. Dee gave me her lion brooch and gave Linda a cameo and asked us to take some of her books. And we said we loved her, and we said goodbye.
When Dee entered the 'room' that is my life, she brought challenge, friendship, fun, and inspiration. When she left it, she took my respect, my affection and my everlasting admiration. She left behind her example of courageous determination, the memory of her joyful enthusiasm and the warmth of our friendship. But my 'room' feels a little empty.

Dear Herbie and family, Many years ago I met you and I thought alot of you, you were the one for Dee. You and Dee picked me up and we drove to(excuse the the spelling) Burgoing Woods for the Sunday School picnic. The day was full of rain and of course there was no one at the park. I was glad to hear you both had children and adopted two as well. You and Dee were so active in the public, what a great couple you both were. I could say I'm sorry but it just doesn't seem to be enough. I will tell you I cared alot about Dee, and I'm so glad you and your chilren had a beautiful life together. We both know she has been called home and we can be happy for that; although the loved ones are always left behind. Take care Herbie, Love, Helen Youngblut Kish xoxo.

Just a few of my memories of Dee.
Dee was always such an inspiration to me and so many others. We shared many horror stories over the years about raising teenagers. Dee's red hair and welcoming smile will be missed by so many.
I remember chatting with Dee in the Wood's family kitchen. I can also see in my minds eye Dee and Herbie dancing up a storm. My goodness, you two knew how to dance.
We always had so much fun together.
I am sure by now she has met up with Merv and they are catching up on old times.
Dee will truly be missed by so many.
