Obituary of Pat Coughlin

Coughlin, Patrick “Pat” We are saddened to announce that after a 6 month battle with an aggressive brain tumor Pat passed away peacefully in his sleep at Mariposa House Hospice on Wednesday March 26th 2025 at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife Trudy of 45 years, adult children Meagan Coughlin (Jon Baker) and Mo Coughlin. Predeceased by his mom Dorothy Hosick and step father Bert Hosick, sister Marlene Coughlin and brother Eric Anderson. He is also survived by a brother Michael (Joanne) in North Bay, sister Janey Anderson in California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat grew up in Kirkland Lake, where he met his wife, forming deep friendships and roots there that remain today as evidenced by his eclectic group of friends on Facebook and proudly wearing his Kirkland Lake T-shirts around Orillia and Coldwater. Shortly after moving to Orillia, Pat found his calling in working with peoples with intellectual disabilities by taking the Developmental Services Worker Program at Georgian College. He started his career working at the Adult Occupational Center in Edgar until it closed, a short stint at HRC followed by a year an as Educational Assistant at Waubaushene Public school and then landing with Simcoe Community Services in Orillia until he retired in 2016. He valued his work because it allowed him to converse and connect with all people, forging many friendships along the way. Pat, in retirement, was a homebody who enjoyed music of all genres, animals in nature viewed from our backyard, engaging with friends, but the love of his life remained his family. Together with his wife Trudy, raising their children provided the joy in his life. Watching with pride as they grew to be the productive, capable, thoughtful and good people they have become. He will be remembered as a generous, kind and gentle man, with a sense of wit and humor and a gift for the one liners that his children have inherited. It is hard to convey in words the deep sadness and loss his family feels but our cherished and laughter-filled memories live on. In addition to his family, he was loved and will be missed by those closest to him. The Shorrock and Beatch families, father in law Harry Kirchmayer, long time friends Lyndon and Bev Lawrence (Crystal Falls), Pat and Jayne Hennessy(Coldwater) With special thanks to Dr. Benjamin McNaull for his expert health care and genuine kindness, the Ontario Health at Home organization for assistance with palliative care at home, the comfort and compassion provided to Pat, his family and friends in his final days by the outstanding team at Mariposa House Hospice.
