Virgint, Wilma Jean
Wilma Jean Grainger was born on June 15, 1929, in Toronto, Ontario, and passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on Friday April, 4 2025, in the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, in her 96th year. She was born to William and Mary Grainger and was the second youngest of a family of five children, the late Laurie, Eileen, Doris and Ruth. Her mother and father immigrated to Canada from England in 1917, during World War I.
Wilma married Harold Virgint on June 11,1955 and on June 11, 2020 they had the privilege of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, just 3 months before her husband passed away. Wilma and her late husband Harold, had four children, Susan, Sophie, our late brother Stanley and Elizabeth; two grandchildren, Amanda and Harley and one great grandchild, Charley. She lived with her husband and children in a house her husband Harold built on Finch Ave. West in Toronto. In 1999, during retirement years, Wilma and Harold moved to Orillia and for the last 2 years, Wilma has resided at the Spenser House Long Term Care Facility in Orillia.
Wilma was a very colourful, bright and talented women. Some called her extraordinary! She was witty, she was spunky, she was feisty and she had a great sense of humour! But at the same time she was a very loving, caring, spiritual and compassionate person, who loved her Lord and Saviour. She was a faithful witness to her faith and shared it with many.
Wilma was a great cook and entertainer, given too much hospitality. Her compassionate heart found her often reaching out to those in need, inviting them home for dinner or taking them into her home to give them shelter.
Wilma was very musical. She achieved her grade 10 in piano at the Royal Conservative of Music and was a beautiful pianist. She also had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and harmonize. Wilma and Harold who played the guitar, use to sing together and many years ago they made a record.
Wilma enjoyed her lifelong career in the legal profession, working as an Executive Legal Assistant for some of Toronto’s top lawyers, during her time.
Wilma loved to travel. In the early years she travelled with her family camping all over Canada and the USA. In later years she travelled to Europe with her husband Harold. Paris was her favourite place and the Eiffel Tower her favourite monument. Hence her room was decorated with Eiffel Tower light fixtures, bedspreads, curtains, pillows pictures etc!
She loved to read and study God’s word. She would often be seen reading her bible with all her bible concordance’s out on the table.
Her home was used to serve her Lord, to entertain and care for many.
We would like to thank the wonderful Personal Care Workers and staff at The Spenser House, Long Term Care Facility, who were so kind and took such good care of Wilma (Willie). We would also like to thank the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital for the care given to Wilma and for the opportunity to stay in “The Cottage”, the beautiful, palliative care room with good medical care until she passed away.
Wilma is greatly loved. She taught us many things, created cherished memories, brought us much laughter, and encouraged us with wisdom which comes from above.
The twinkle in her eye and her witty, feisty, spunky spirit will be missed, but we rejoice that she is with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E, Orillia, Ont. (705)-327-0221. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
