Obituary of Dave Gillespie
Gillespie, David (Dave)
Passed away days after his 56th birthday on April 5th following a brief but courageous battle. Born April 1, 1969, in Barrie Ontario to the late Dorothy (LaVerdiere) and Leonard Gillespie. David grew up in Oro Station and spent most of his time on the ice or fishing. The family pond was a place for Dave to fulfill both the passions. Dave spent many summers in Algonquin Park which was like a second home to him. Many great laughs were shared over campfires in Rock Lake with family and friends who became family over the close to 40 years spent there.
Dave is survived by his two sons Jeff (Kalynn) and Nick (Matt), the mother of his sons and first love Joanne (Heard) Gillespie and two grandchildren Riley and Lylah.
Dave is also survived by his remaining sibling Joanne Wallace, her husband Bill, nieces Kim Wallace (Gordon Lavery) and Crystal Wallace and nephew Cooper Lavery. Dave also leaves behind many other nieces, nephews and cousins who also held a special place in his heart.
In the last few years Dave found happiness in his relationship with Sue Carley. In the end, Dave’s only regret was that he didn’t get more time to spend with Sue, his boys, family and everyone else he loved.
A special thanks to the Midland Flyers organization and coaching staff for their love, support and caring for our family and Dave during this difficult time.
Also, a big thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. Just like everything else Dave did in life, he fought his illness with strength, courage and remained calm and positive through the entire ordeal.
There are so many people we would like to publicly thank but there are just so many who stepped up in one way or another to be there for all of us that it’s impossible to list them all.
At Dave’s request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Dave’s life and all his accomplishments will be held at a later date.
