Obituary of Dan Skinner
Dan Skinner
1942-2025
After a long and full life, Dan passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital April 28th, 2025.
Dan is survived by his wife of 57 years Joy Skinner (nee Woodhouse); daughters Shelly Skinner and partner Pete Nowacki; daughter Joanna Milroy and grandchildren Dustind and Maddison. Dan also leaves behind his brother Gordon and wife Cheryl and his sister Marnie Phoenix and their children.
Dan was born and raised in Leaside, Ontario, the son of Jack and Millie Skinner (predeceased). He spent his summers on the shores of Georgian Bay where he found his love of boating.
After completion of Leaside High school Dan earned his degree at York University. Dan built a career in sales management, relocating his family to Vancouver BC and eventually back to Ontario. Dan grew his career rebuilding companies until he stepped out on his own to purchase Autosport Orillia. He then established Dan Skinner Leasing and Industrial Park Collision Inc. Dan very much believed in supporting the local business community. Dan was an active member of Kiwanis Club of Orillia and was the recipient of numerous awards including the Skid Watson Award and the Top 40 Under 40 CEOs.
Dan had a great love of the lake and anything with an engine from boats to cars, to Harley's. In later years Dan would spend hours on the back deck admiring boats crossing the lake and taking in the beautiful sunsets. He was an avid photographer capturing wonderful moments throughout the years that will be cherished by his family.
He will be remembered for his heart of gold, incredible sense of humor, his impeccable style and great love for his family. Dan was a mentor and confidant to many over the years quietly cheering on others for their successes. He held a special place in his heart for ‘the kids of Couchiching Point’ who were like family to him.
The family would like to thank Shay and Kirsten in the emergency department at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital who made his final hours peaceful and enabled him to pass with dignity. A special thanks to Dr. Italiano who cared for Dan for many years and was with him in his last hours.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial donations can be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital or to the Ontario SPCA Orillia through Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street Orillia (705) 327 0221. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
