Obituary of Bette Readman
Readman, Elizabeth Mae
Elizabeth ‘Bette’ Readman age 85, of Muskoka and Orillia peacefully passed on June 12th, 2025, surrounded by family, after complications from cancer. Bette was a fighter until the end.
Born February 2, 1940 in Craighurst, Ontario to parents, Douglas Readman and Mae Amos, sister to Kaye (John) and Gary (Nova). Her family relocated to Bloor West Village, Toronto, where Bette grew up attending Runnymede Public School, and making cherished memories with childhood friends on Beresford Avenue.
Bette was a quiet warrior in her own way. Early in her career she was a secretary for the Bank of Montreal, and later in life ran The Boathouse Bed & Breakfast on Lake Muskoka; Toronto Life Magazine referred to it as “the best B&B North of Toronto.” Finally in Victoria House, she continued to live in style, making new friends, enjoying her family, and their celebrations.
Loving partner to William Exton, George Snider, and Ronald White.
Mother to Allan (Mary), Susan (Peter), and Alison (Frank).
Granny to Bradley, Emma (Adam), Sunny, Sadie, Billy, and great grand-child, Gavin. Granny to Adam and Victoria in Heaven.
A visitation at 11:30 AM, followed by 1:00 PM service, interment, and refreshments will take place Saturday June 21st, 2025, at St. John’s Anglican Church of Craighurst (3191 Penetanguishene Rd, Barrie, ON L4M 4Y8). While a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, St. John’s holds significance for Bette, as it stands on land from her Grandfather’s apple orchard, the final resting place for generations of our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Comfie Cat Shelter (112 Norweld Dr, Orillia, ON L3V 7W5), as Bette was a lifelong lover of cats. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca
