Joanna,
Every time I would pass by the farm along the Old Barrie Rd, I was reminded of you and Peter. I did not know Peter well, but I did play hockey with him a few times (not at his caliber). Time passes by us all too quickly. I am sending you my deepest condolences.

I am very sad to hear of Mr. McEwen’s passing. I was a highschool student of his at Innisdale SS in the 80s. He was one of my favourite teachers in my life along with Bill Bell (English teacher).
I remember he took our art class to his farm to oil paint in the fall, he instilled a love for the arts that I am still creating. I so hoped to have run into him sometime to thank him for all that he taught me. I cherish those memories always.
I spent my senior year one summer creating a large paint mural for the ploughing match.
Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of his students. He was a treasure and I will never forget him. God speed fine Sir.
Warm regards,
Sandy (Osborne) Friary

Peter and Joanna always welcomed us warmly for family gatherings throughout the years. Sharing a wee dram, hearing of the various adventures that our children were up to, and reminiscing fondly with the many memories over the years was something that my late husband Joel and I enjoyed very much, especially during our years in Sugarbush. Rest in peace Peter.
With love and respect,
Mary Lynn Andersen

Dear Joanna, John, and all of Peter’s family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your loss, as well as our memories. John, we got your card, and were saddened to learn that our Sugar Bush neighbour, with the always welcoming and open door, was no longer with us.
We have sent more memories to the family. I, Rita, remember Peter as being remarkably invested, supportive, and wise-in-criticism about the many communities of which he was a part. Communities of artists, politicians, citizens, former students, family, and friends. Peter was always generous and embracing.
Thank you for sharing him.
Rita, Rex, and Shelton Ramsay Deverell

My deepest condolences on Peter's news.
Peter and Joanna were beyond kind to me when I lived with them in 1992 as an international exchange student when I attended ODCVI. I loved their creative, life-loving, caring, and sharing natures. So many lifelong memories were created in that year, especially cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and island cottage visits. All these experiences and their shared values also helped shape who I am today, for that I'm beyong grateful. Much love, Lynda Inglis (nee: Fuhrman from Australia)

Tom and I send very sincere condolences to the McEwen family. We shared Peter's love of Pineridge and the many years we spent on the hills with him and the McEwen clan were most enjoyable. Peter was a man of many talents, and he shared those talents with his friends. May he rest now.
Most sincerely,
Tom and Judy Kurtz

I’m so sorry to hear that Peter has passed, he was always such a nice man to be around. I have great memories of playing hockey with him here in Orillia and still bring up his amazing abilities in conversations. I was always impressed by how good he was when most people his age wouldn’t even consider putting on a pair of skates!

To Peter's family:
I am so very sorry for your loss. Peter was my art teacher at Park Street back in the early '70's, and I could always count on him be honest and kind in my art "endeavours". He will be missed by all whom he loved, and who loved him back. Godspeed, Peter.

My condolences to Joanna and Ian (both Art Teachers to daughter Margot at TLSS) and all the family and friends as you say goodbye to Peter.
I knew him through Life Drawing sessions at OMAH. He was a very talented and creative individual with a quiet presence. He will be missed by many.
Blessings for peace going forward to all.
