Verna Diane Swannell Obituary

Swannell, Verna Diane

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Verna Swannell at her home on October 10th, 2025 at the age of 82. Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. A lifelong resident of Ontario, she made homes in Orillia, Collingwood, South River, and Waubaushene, creating memories and friendships in each community along the way. For nearly 30 years, Verna worked with dedication and pride at the Royal Bank, serving at both the Orillia and Collingwood branches. Her commitment to her work and to the people she helped left a lasting impression on her colleagues and customers alike. Outside of work, Verna was full of life and simple joys. A devoted Blue Jays fan, she rarely missed a game and always rooted for her team with enthusiasm and heart. She found delight in the little comforts of life—never skipping her nightly episodes of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy and always keeping a stash of her favorite Jujubes close at hand. Family was Verna’s greatest source of pride and happiness. She lovingly knitted sweaters for her grandchildren, each one stitched with care and affection. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, filled with the scent of homemade pickles and relish—treasures that family and friends will always remember as part of her generous spirit.

Beloved wife of the late Ken Swannell. Loving mother of Kimberley, Paul (Elaine), and Brenda (Stan), Mervin (Catherine), Alvin (Joanne), and Marlene (Jack). Cherished grandmother of Rebecka, Miranda, Chad, Courtney, Ashley, Travis, Dylan, Gordon, Samantha, Nicholas, Thomas, Iliana, Jake, Nicole and great grandmother of Payton, Brady, Bennett, Bryce, Carter, Jason, Marissa, Cayden, Leila, Nevaeh, Liberty, Declan, Tobias, Cooper, Rosie, Reid, Felix, Linkin, Walter, Walton, Zachary and Isla. Dear sister to Foster Stephens – dec., Brenda Greeley (Stan) – both predeceased, Graydon Stephens (late Sandra), Stephen Stephens (Diane), Steve Stephens (Kathie), and Sharon (Greg). Dear cousin to Pat. She had many adventures with her friend Donna. Verna’s memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all that were fortunate to have shared in her life. She will be deeply missed and always remembered. The family wish to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Dharssi, Blake, Tara, Randi, neighbour Marlene and Happy at Home Support Services and Care Partners for their compassion and exceptional care. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Verna’s Life will be held at Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street East, Orillia on October 18th from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.
