Peter's smile, gentleness and spirit of servanthood left a lasting impression upon us as we prepared for missionary service at LBBC in 1987-1990. What he modeled in faithful Christian service took us all to the heart of what God's love in Christ is all about: sacrificial love. All praise be to our God for the gift of Peter's life. He was a real rock on which God built his Church in south Etobicoke, and through him around the world. We were honoured to be carried by Peter and his family's faithfulness and prayers for so many year.

Our deepest condolences to Gayle, Brian and Nancy and the extended family. I spent many years travelling and singing with the Melodaires throughout Ontario and New York state. Peter was a solid tenor singer and was such a support to all of us. We will always miss Peter and Audrey. God bless!

I remember Peter with great appreciation. I came as one nee to the pastorate in about 1982. I learned quickly that Peter demonstrated a living faith and a commitment to service. He was one of the bulwarks of long Branch Baptist Church. His family’s commitment to hospitality was legion. We thank God for the model he left.

I will always be thankful and remember Peter fondly as a pillar of Long Branch Baptist Church and as a Christian who simply wanted to do the will of his Heavenly Father. Peter was a great example to so many of someone who quietly but diligently went about his work in service to the Lord. Colossians 3:23 comes to mind. Listening to him sing however is when you could really see the joy of the Lord in his heart. He was an encouragement to me in my role at the church as well. We mourn with all Peter’s remaining family and rejoice with you also, knowing that Peter is now home with Jesus.

Peter was a role model and staple elder in the church. He cared for every soul that walked through the church and every maintenance the church needed. I looked forward to every Christmas carol and hug at the end of every service growing up. I'm happy to know him & Audrey are reunited once more.
Love,
Christine Fournier

I remember Peter always at the church meetings talking about fixing things like some ceiling tiles on the 3rd floor. I always thought who cares? He did because the church was the house of his spiritual family and since they are important, the building is too. Peter was a pillar, supporting his family, church, and church building. Actually he is a pillar as his contributions live on.

Please accept Noel and Norma's condolences in the Homegoing of Peter. I know that he rode on the wings of angels because, though we saw him as a man, in disguise, he was an angel. Thank you, and Audrey, for opening your family home to us so we could learn more about our Lord and Saviour. You taught me how to lead a Bible discussion and felt that I could then lead our group onward. What a Blessing you have been to us! Our deepest sympathy to all your family. RIP

A lifetime of memories have come to mind as the history of the McFarlane-Bannister family goes back before my time. The deep bonds of faith and family were forged through our days together at Long Branch Baptist Church and The Melodaires.
I recall so many Sunday nights travelling with The Melodaires to churches all over the GTA (and sometimes beyond). I can remember the times sitting beside Peter in the pew before they would go up and sing, trying to emulate his beautiful singing voice as hymns were sung during the church service. When you sat so close to those tenor vocals, you knew you were in the presence of something truly special.
Having grown up at LBBC, it is impossible to think of the history of the church without thinking of Peter. The countless hours he gave to the upkeep of the building, using his talents behind the scenes to keep everything in top notch shape. It is staggering to think of all the different roles he served in the church. Serving as a groomsman in Nancy and Kirk's wedding, I drove the other groomsman in Peter's van, decorated for the occasion, to the reception venue. When I gave him the keys at the end of the night, I teased him that driving his car was exhausting because every stop light I came to, his van automatically fought me and tried to turn back and head to LBBC. “It acted like it was the only place it knew where to go”, I said to him.
In later years, I had the opportunity to serve on the Elders board with Peter. He was our undisputed leader and we were all thankful for him. It was a pleasure to sit under and learn from all those many years of experience.
Since their move to Severn, we have had the opportunity to visit Nancy and Kirk's home for weekend getaways. To watch Peter as he cared for his wife Audrey was to witness a man of love and devotion. To sum it up succinctly, Peter in his caring, patient manner showed you how to do it the right way.
An album that The Meoldaires released right around the time of my birth was titled “Little is Much”. Though the title song was not in their repertoire when I was following them around, it is a song that I have listened to countless number of times from the album. Peter sang the lead on that song and fittingly so. “Little is Much when God is in it”, the lyrics say. “Labour not for wealth or fame. There's a crown and you can win it, if you're called in Jesus name”. Peter answered that call, in so many ways. I will forever be grateful for the memories and the lessons learned.
I look forward to one day seeing him again.
