Obituary of Susan Lenore Jamieson

Jamieson, Susan Lenore (née Winch) (Neely) It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Susan "Sue" Lenore Jamieson of Orillia on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the age of 79, at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Sue was the loving mother of the late Thomas Neely of Orillia; Colin Neely (Pamela) of Oro-Medonte; and Jennifer Neely of Victoria, BC. She was a cherished grandmother to Gabriel, Samuel, Ezekiel, Jack, and Sebastian. Sue was the beloved daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy Winch of Meaford. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters: Cathy Oprisan (Marian, predeceased) of Elliot Lake; Ann McIntyre (Robert, predeceased) of Petawawa; and Debbie Waldron (Ken) of Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her brothers Jim Winch (Bonnie) of Orillia and Michael Winch of Owen Sound. Sue will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Born on September 24, 1946, in Petrolia, Ontario, Sue spent much of her formative years in Wiarton and Meaford. She graduated from Georgian College in Orillia in 1976 as a Registered Nurse. Sue began her nursing career at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, later working at Huronia Regional Centre, and then as a VON nurse in Grey County. She eventually returned to Huronia Regional Centre, where she completed her nursing career before retiring. Retirement did not slow Sue’s lifelong dedication to helping others. She was an active member and volunteer with the United Church of Canada, including Oxford Street where Sue served as Chair of the church council board and a member of the congregation since joining in 1983, Regent Park, and Westmount United Churches. Sue also volunteered with Scouts Canada for many years and served on numerous boards and committees. Affectionately known to everyone as “Grandma Sue” at the local Orillia arenas, she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren in hockey and lacrosse. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who provided loving care to Sue, including the doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, PSWs, Kim Newman and staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Special appreciation is extended to Dr. Julie Gallagher, the Bayshore Nurses (especially Amanda), and Sheona and her PSW angels from Happy at Home, whose compassion and dedication helped make Sue’s final months at home as comfortable as possible. Sue will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. A memorial service celebrating Sue’s life will be held in early spring at Simcoe Funeral Home.
