Born in Toronto, predeceased by his parents Tauno and Elna Ojala. Beloved husband of Irene (nee Kaczor) for 67 years. Loving father of Teresa Ross (Dennis) of Washago, Sophie Sage of Sydenham, and Mark Ojala of Orillia. Proud grandfather of Stephanie Ross (Mike Cattaruzza), Robert Ross (Sarah MacDonald), Jenni-Lynn Ross (Steve King), Christine Ojala, Connor Ojala; great grandfather of Alessandra, Keaton, Maurizio, and Hadley. Dear brother of Alli Ross, and Miriam Ralph-both predeceased. In Loving Memory of Tauno Ojala who lived a life defined by precision, rhythm, and an unwavering commitment to his family. Whether he was analyzing the properties of metals, doing home renovations, or navigating a cross-country family road trip, he did so with precision and dedication. The Family Man He was very proud of his family. He and Irene were married 67 years, an accomplishment few achieve. He was "that dad"—the one who was always on the sidelines cheering on his children and recounting stories of their successes throughout their lives, even if sometimes embellished. He was also the "driver extraordinaire" of the family, manning the wheel during cross country summer camping vacations as far as the Maritimes, Newfoundland, Vancouver and Alaska creating the backdrop for a lifetime of memories. From Resilience to Sports His journey into a lifelong love of activity began with a moment of profound relief. After a childhood of being observed for possible Tuberculosis, receiving his medical clearance as a teenager to play sports became a great joy. He didn't let that second chance go to waste, soon discovering a natural talent for Track and Field and Basketball. He competed in Track and Field right up to the Master's World Championships in Sweden in 1977. He was a devoted basketball player and fan. Whether he was on the court himself or cheering from his armchair, he loved the strategy and energy of the game. He stayed active skating into his 60s. He also had a passion for using natural medicine and supplements to remain healthy through every challenge he faced allowing him to live to 93 beyond even his own expectations. He encouraged his family to follow suit. A Brilliant Mind Professionally, Tauno was an accomplished Metallurgist. A proud alumnus of the University of Toronto, he earned his Masters of Applied Science and P.Eng., a testament to his intellectual rigor. One of his passions was as a quality assurance manager in metallurgy. Passions and Legacy In his later years, Tauno combined his love for photography and his eagerness to embrace new technology to become the family historian. He spent countless hours on MyHeritage, meticulously compiling photos and records to ensure the family’s story would be preserved for generations to come. When he wasn't documenting the past, he was often found listening to the sweeping sounds of Big Band music or supporting causes close to his heart. As a prostrate cancer survivor he led a support group for others and was a dedicated supporter of Ride for Dad, an organization that remained deeply important to him. Tauno leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, resilience, and a reminder to always show up for the people you love. In the finally weeks of his life, Tauno reconnected with God and we trust that he is in His presence today.
