Obituary of Joan Margaret Benoit
Joan Margaret Benoit
With sadness, we announce Joan’s peaceful passing at Mariposa House Hospice on Saturday January 31st, 2026. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Andy, after nearly sixty wonderful years of marriage. Joan is also survived by her sons, Neil (Ruta) and Brian (Carolyn), and grandsons William and Owen, who were truly the light of her life.
Joan was a cherished friend to many and volunteered at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for several years after her retirement. She loved travelling, sharing meals with friends and family, and simply enjoying life. For more than forty years, she treasured living at the lake, taking in everything from beautiful sunrises to dramatic storms. On nicer days, she could often be found sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and a good book. As she liked to say, “There’s always something to look at.”
We would also like to acknowledge the many people who supported Joan during her final journey. This includes her doctors, the hospital staff and the EMS teams who were there when needed. Last, but certainly not least, we extend our deepest thanks to the compassionate staff at Mariposa House Hospice, who made Joan’s final days peaceful and comfortable for her and her family. We will never forget what you collectively did for us.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes cremation has taken place and private family arrangements may take place at a later time. In Joan’s memory, donations to Mariposa House Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St E Orillia.
