So many fond memories of Bob - difficult to distill them into a few sentences - I do know all of them would have me smiling and enjoying his company whether on the field or with a pint of cheer in front of us or in a meeting room wrestling with philosophical ideas or X or Os. He will be missed yet with us forever. God Bless.

I just learned of this. I am saddened that Bo has passed, but what an incredible legacy he leaves in both the family he raised, and the young men he coached to better lives. I played for Bo for five years, and coached with him for one. Because of him, I still call the kids I coach "Pard'na". He coaxed me into wanting to be better, and when I was unsure about the future, he gave me the greatest advice and showed nothing but confidence in me. God bless you, Bo.

I met Bo at the University of Waterloo in 1967 and crossed paths with him many times over the last 60 years. He was a remarkable individual as he was intelligent, very humorous, and always helpful. I had the opportunity to play with him but mainly against him in the CFL. He had a remarkable career and I doubt that he ever made one bad long snap. I last saw him about 10 years ago at St Fx and I will cherish that memory. Phone calls with Bo over the last few years were interesting and always a pleasure. My thoughts go out to Chris, Beau, and Mary. His spirit will never die.

I am so saddened to hear of Bo's passing -- he was truly an exceptional man and a wonderful coach who left a deep impression on anyone who knew him. I was so honoured to be part of his 1st year as the Gaels head coach in 95 -- it's a year I look back on with extreme gratitude and that was due mostly to the amazing environment he created for the team. He somehow had the perfect blend of knowledge, intensity, compassion, and humour -- a combination that I've come to realize is very rare in life. Thanks for everything Bo. My deepest condolences to Beau and his entire family.

Bob was a friend and colleague at Queen’s University as we both navigated our coaching journeys. We spent many an evening at the Pilot House engaged in Coach’s philosophy corner. I learned a lot from Bob. We also shared teaching responsibilities in the school of physical education, ‘Howeser’ shared his wisdom and experience with very lucky students. He had a way of injecting humour into some very serious topics and had a knack for making learning fun. I was very sad when he moved on from Queen’s University and now that he has passed on from this world I again feel tremendous loss.. My sincere condolences to Bo’s family, inner circle of friends and his former teammates and athletes. I hope your good memories bring you comfort, as do mine.

Dear Howes family,
I was a classmate of Bo(as we called him) in '67-'68 in the U.of Waterloo B.P.E. program. He was a real character, great sense of humour, smart and a gifted athlete in basketball and football. One day I sat beside him in class and he pulled out a piece of paper and asked me to witness it;it was a C.F.L. tryout form (I think maybe B.C.Lions).In typical Bo fashion at that time ,he said,"if I get cut,I'm halfway to Hawaii." But he had a fabulous C.F.L.career.I am not surprised that he had a great influence as a coach.
My condolences to the family at your great loss;may his memory be a blessing.

Words fail to capture my gratitude to Bo. He taught me so much about life - and as much as I was capable of learning about football - in the years I had the honour of playing under his leadership. His voice is in my head every day, as I am sure it is for so many of us.
My thoughts are with Bo's family - and my challenge it to strive to live up to Bo's example.

I was incredibly lucky to have played football at Queens for five years in the 1980s and had several excellent coaches. To be respected coaches have to know their stuff and be able to communicate their knowledge. To be loved, they have to make special connections with their players. Bo was respected and loved by his players. What stands out most for me was the infectious sense of joy he brought to every practice and game. He was so much fun to play for and just a great person to spend time with. I'll always be grateful to have been coached by Bo. My deepest condolences to his family.

I was fortunate to be coached and mentored by Bo for my 5 years as a Gael. He inspired me to want to work with youth for the rest of my life and share the lessons that he taught me over those years. I will be forever blessed to have shared that part of my life with Bo. My condolences to all the Howes family and friends of Bo.

Thoughts are with the Howes family and those who Bob made a positive impact on in the football community and beyond. I was fortunate enough to coach alongside Bob Howes and the memories are enough to make me smile and laugh to this day. Bob Howes was a friend to many and an inspiration to all.

Bob and I played together with the Gaels and the BC Lions. He was prized as a player and a teamate. We roomed together while we played for the Lions. His record speaks for itself with 5 Grey Cups while playing for the Eskimos. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to play alongside him. My condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

Beau, Rhys and Shyloh, I am so very sorry for your loss. Although I never had the chance to meet Bob, it’s clear what an incredible man he was and how the strength, character and sense of humour he passed down live on beautifully through each of you. Thinking of you and holding you close during this difficult time.❤️
