Obituary of Greta Winifred Montgomery
Montgomery Greta Winifred (Nee Flannery)
May 9, 1929 -February 14, 2026
The family of Greta Montgomery is saddened to announce that Greta has passed away at the age of 96 in London, Ontario following a brief hospital stay. Predeceased by her beloved husband John Montgomery, Greta was the daughter of Catherine and Joe Flannery. As their youngest sibling, Greta was deeply loved by Norman Flannery, Imelda Hipkin, Roy Flannery, Emily Montgomery, Alma Flannery and Hilda Reilly-Cooke all predeceased. She was a much loved sister - in- law of Joe Hipkin, Doreen Flannery & Andrew Reilly & a dear companion to her best friend & mentor Evelyn Irish (predeceased). Greta will remain an adored & cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews along with their children & grandchildren who will all miss her dearly. We would like to express our greatest respect & immense gratitude for her generation which has now come to a close within our family. Each one of us will forever cherish her guidance, staunch support, her impish silliness, our laughs & our memories. Greta was a woman of boundless faith & commitment. Her devotion to her family & God was unparalleled. She would appear without being asked, with her blend of love and understanding. Always appearing when she was needed the most giving support in any possible way. As a proud & dedicated registered nurse of over 4 decades, her professional life took her from California & Barrie to finally settling in Sudbury which was home to her for many years. It was there that Greta found a community with friends & colleagues that our family is thankful for as she thrived having found a wonderful sense of belonging. She was passionate about the value of education & was very drawn to the idea of travel although life did tend to limit her adventures. We would like to offer our thanks & heartfelt gratitude to our cousin Eileen Parker & her family for her loving, & compassionate care of Aunt Greta for the past couple of years. Along with the caring staff of Highview Residences in London Ontario. Also, we would like to express our appreciation to London Health Science Centre and University Hospital and Palliative Care Unit for their kind, professional & empathetic care of both our aunt & our cousin as Eileen remained by Greta’s side until God called her home. “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed”
Words of love are gifts to all hearts. You will forever be in our Hearts.
