Obituary of Larry Stewart Hughes
Hughes, Larry Stewart
Larry Stewart Hughes went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 11, 2026, leaving a profound void in the hearts of his loved ones. He was a deeply loved husband, stepfather, grandfather, and exceptional friend.
Beloved son of Violet McHugh and the late Roland Hughes, Larry was a dear brother to Shirley, George, and Sandy. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Larry was an exceptionally talented mechanic and auto body specialist, known for his rare gift and passion for restoring and building muscle cars, Hot Rods, and classic cars. His craftsmanship was second to none, earning him the nickname “The Car Whisperer” among those who knew and admired his work.
Beyond his incredible skills, Larry was a mechanical specialist on the television show Restoration Garage. He also owned and operated Straightline Auto Body with his wife, and worked at Orillia Truck and Auto with Jamie. Larry was a truly selfless man who would give the shirt off his back to help others. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to both his craft and the people he loved. Larry leaves behind his beloved wife, Karen Hughes; his stepchildren, Richard Racicot, Jonathan Racicot, and Krystal Racicot; his daughters-in-law, Gail Castaldi Racicot and Diana Avellaneda-Racicot; and his cherished grandchildren, Tegan, Ava, William, Willow, Rosaleigh, and Maya. He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind man—remarkably talented, deeply caring, and loved by so many. He will be missed beyond words by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming months. For more information, please contact Karen Hughes or Krystal Racicot at k.racicot@rogers.com or thecarwhisper@gmail.com.
