Obituary of Ruth Evangeline Neily

Neily, Ruth Evangeline Ruth Evangeline Neily (nee Presant), aged 98, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends on March 16, 2024, after a brief stay at Trillium Manor in Orillia, Ontario. Late of Hillside Avenue, Wheatley. Ruth was born March 13, 1926 on the family farm in Blenheim, Ontario to Eva (nee Eaton) and Harold Presant. Her cherished memories of growing up on the farm endured throughout her life. Ruth was one of a few women in the first graduating class of the Journalism Program at Western University. Her love of writing infused her life. She worked on the Beamsville newspaper, self-published three books of her own poetry, edited the Windsor Orchid Society newsletter, and prepared a weekly column for the Wheatley United Church. In 1952, Ruth married Ron Neily (2006) and they built their Wheatley house in 1955. They delighted in their home, yard and gardens and its proximity to Wheatley Provincial Park. They cherished friendships within the community. Ruth was grateful to be able to stay in her house until September 2023. Ruth was adored by and devoted to her children Nancy (Orillia), Betsy (with partner Andy in Vancouver) and Ron (with partner Linda in Sebringville) and grandson Tom (with partner Aurora in Kitimat BC). She had lifelong affection for her brothers, the late Don (Audrey), Ted (Sheila), Bob (Gwen) and their children. In addition to her family and friends, Ruth’s passions included painting, gardening, birdwatching, and raising orchids. She rehabilitated or adopted a variety of stray animals including birds, dogs and cats. The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Amy’s Helping Hands (Windsor) and Trillium Manor (Orillia) who kept Ruth happy, healthy, and safe. The love and care from her dear friends Art and Betty, Bob and Liz, and Susie was freely given and gratefully received. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
