My husband has been friends with the family since he was a child. I have been fortunate to have known Frankie (Elizabeth) for these past 30 years. I remember the first time we met. We were in Shelburne at the fiddle contest, a place we shared annually for many years, and Don introduced me to the family. My first impression of Frankie was that she was "Hollywood movie star" gorgeous, vivacious, funny and warm. It didn't take long to figure out that not only was she genuinely all of those things, but also benevolent, loving, gracious and just a little bit naughty. I could go on and on. Frankie's sense of humour got the pair of us into trouble once or twice, which brings me to a story I'd like to share.
My sister and I were flying solo in Shelburne one year, which means ours spouses were not in attendance, so Sonny and Frankie determined that we needed "looking after". This meant that we were to join them in their campsite for an evening of fun, outrageous story telling, guitar playing, singing and dancing... and perhaps some dedicated drinking. We did all of the above, especially the outrageous story telling. The next morning, my sister and I, being early risers, crawled out of our tent to find that the only other early risers in our group of campers, was Sonny and Frankie and two other women. We all had breakfast together and rehashed some of the ridiculous stories from the night before, laughing hysterically about the fact that Sonny was now deemed to be a cradle robber, a story that was perpetuated by Frankie. Poor Sonny was so outnumbered by the five of us girls, be he didn't run as most men would. Periodically one of us would look at Sonny and call him a cradle robber and off we would go again into fits of giggles. It wasn't long until one of our other fellow campers came over to offer us a dozen eggs. He said it sounded like a bunch of chickens cackling and he thought the eggs might be their offspring. This was not helpful in stopping the hysteria. I will always remember Frankie as she was that day, a little bit devilish, full of life, and I will never forget her capacity for love and kindness. Don and I will remember her often and do our very best to pass on her traditions.

Dear Heather and the Thompson Family:
Just wanted to offer my sincere condolences on the loss of a Mom, Mother-in-law, and Grandmother. I
Here is a wee poem that helped me through the loss of my parents, brother and other loved ones. Hope
it gives you comfort.
I can not say, and I will not say that she is dead.
She is just away!
With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand,
she has wandered into an unknown Land,
And left us dreaming how very fair It must be, since she lingers There,
Think of her faring on,
as dear in the love of There as the love of Here;
Think of her still as the same, I say;
She is not dead - she is just- away!
Hugs and sympathy to all of you. I will keep your family in my prayers. sincerely, Eileen Brown

Have many great memories of Frankie to reminisce about at Lake St. John. Frankie was a loving caring fun lady to be around she lit up a room with her smile. Sadly missed but never forgotten.
