In Memory of My Mother-In-Law
My mother-in-law passed away Friday, September 14th, 2018. My husband misses her so much.
When people think of mother-in-laws, a lot of thoughts come to mind, which are usually not flattering. I have only knows mine for 5 years and I think she was a beautiful person. Although one could attribute this to good fortune, I suspect that it had much more to do with the love that she and Carl shared for each other and for their family.
We got to know each other pretty well, with our weekly visits, whether just a visit, taking supper, or bringing her out for a meal. When Tim would step out on the balcony for a smoke, we shared secrets, stories and most of all how much we both loved Tim! She told me to keep making him happy, that she hadn't seen that true smile for quite some time know and that she didn't car what I looked like, smeeled like or how clean my house was, as long as I looked after him. Whew made it through the mother-in-law. This is a easy promise for me to keep to her.
While in the hospital she asked me to give her a sponge bath. My outside voice said sure, my inside voice said, crap, how can I do this most intimate thing. I brought in some pretty smelling soap, cloth, towel and basin. I can do this! Up goes the gown, back side first, whew, roll over mom, other backside, lay back and now the front. OH DEAR! DEEP BREATH! One boob up, second boob up, I'm now a little relaxed soooooo, my finger goes into her belly button, the sweet sound of her belly laugh will forever be in my head. Clean gown, teeth brushed. When she stopped laughing, I got the Gawd, Wanda, I love you! A very fond memory I will hold dear to my heart.
Ona had a huge heart and a caring spirit. Everyone of us is a better person for having known her. What a blessing to know she's in heaven watching over us now.
