Since I was about 6 years old “ Payne became a household name. And although mainly it was Dale Payne in my life, I soon learned that at least 2 other Payne’s weren’t far behind. And soon in our small town whether it was Terry, Glenn or Dale it simply just became “The Payne Boys” .. Who fixed your sink?
A Payne boy.
Which one? No one ever really knew. Sometimes even getting paid with homemade cookies.
As Orillian young men were approaching the “ Coming of age” the ritual at this time for the right of passage was to Go play slo- pitch with the “ Payne” boys. Where more than just strikes and home runs were taught. Fair play. Play Hard. And always just for fun as I did hear over the years “ For Christ sakes no ones paying you to play Buddy”
At a booster which I had the pleasure in partaking in a few .. I quietly ask if there was any other Beer besides Coors light? Peoples eyes would widen and their teeth would clench like I had committed death penalty crime in Texas. I shut up and drank it!
Glenn and Dale always inseparable. Teasing the shit out of each other Glenn calling Dale buckwheat just “ Rib” his baby brother. Glenn and Dale Dale And Glenn.. same brain, same heart, same soul.
Young men growing into husbands and fathers and their families always being their utmost priority.
Although the forever kidding joking around Glenn it was never a joke how much he loved Marilyn, Matthew, Kelly and Ali.
He would anything for anybody.
Always looking out for everyone else.
There no other place for Glenn besides a glorious spot in heaven where he can rest easy and have Endless Coors light on tap.
Blessed am I to have had the Payne’s in my life. And definitely a grand slam home run to have known Glenner. ❤️ ⚾️
