I am so sad to hear of Mr. Ellis' passing. I was one of his students at Camp Borden High School from 1960-64 He was my Phys-Ed teacher, and my Track & Field, and basketball coach. I remember him in his white Porche convertible. I played basketball for him on the CBDHS team for 3 years. He was by far my favorite teacher. That is the effect he had on everyone. I was always proud of the fact that I was being taught by a Grey Cup winner with the Tiger-Cats, my favorite team. My deepest condolences to the family, he is a huge loss for everyone. Rest in Peace Coach.

When I went to Barrie North my friends at Eastview who played football always spoke with respect about their coach Mr. Ellis. He was always friendly and encouraging to me when I became a teacher. My dad, Wally Kelman, also 90, played football with Dunc at Vaughn Road CI, always spoke highly of him and was happy to see him at reunions and other times. And every time I would see Dunc he would always ask, "how's your dad?"
My condolences to the family.

Hello Joan and Family
I was saddended to read of Dunc's passing. He was a huge part of our P.H.E 5T3 class. We had such a wonderful group and treasure the many reunion gatherings that we shared over the years. It was also interesting to follow our classmates lives and realize that they all had made significant contributions in their chosen work and their families. Dunc was one of the best and was always available to support his fellow Phys Eders. Wally and I send our condolences to you and your family.

Dunc Sr./Mr. Ellis/Coach will be remembered by the Sclater Family, both at Eastview and through Barrie Rugby. He attended countless ESS Rugby and Football games, even after retiring as coach. It was only fitting that he take the opening kick at Eastview's 50th Anniversary Alumni Rugby Game. The Sclater family enjoyed hearing his stories while Dunc Jr. played with Stephen for the Barrie RFC Men's Team. He was so proud of his family, a loyal friend, dedicated teacher and inspiring coach, who truly loved the game of Rugby. He will be greatly missed! Love, Hugs and Prayers to the Ellis Family from the Sclaters xoxo

Please accept my deepest condolences in Duncs passing. As I read his obituary, it brought back many ,many find memories of Dunc and family. Way back when I was just a little 'guy', fishing with my dad Rusty and Dunc off the Shanty Bay dock! To my first attempt at football in grade 9 at Eastview with Dunc as my 'coach'. To a student in his classes , he was always a very kind and honest person I could look up ( way up!) to.
I look forward to joining in a celebration of his life (Toast and Roast) when things return to normal.
Stay safe

Dunc will be sorely missed, and was an amazing person -- right from my first contact in Grade 9 in September 1960, when I tried out for the senior (no junior team) CBDHS football squad. Through four years with head coach, "Gentle Ben", (but never to his face), has had a lifetime impact for me.
Despite often being on the losing end of the score, his first words in the post-game locker room never changed: "Is everyone OK?"
His humanity and wisdom shone through at all times.
To his family and friends, we are truly sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Dunc Sr’s passing. He had a real knack for getting to know all the students at ESS over the years -even those of us who weren’t all that much into sports. My thoughts are with you and your families.

Dear Joan and family,
Susan and I were very saddened to hear of the passing of Dunc. As a past Eastview staff member I recall many wonderful experiences working, coaching and socializing with Dunc. Always positive, happy and optimistic about kids and school. Loved to bluff at poker too! Joan always offered a steady hand for Dunc and endured with him through the tragic effects of Parkinson's. He will be terribly missed by numerous students, staff, players, friends and loved ones. Rest in peace dear Dunc.

Dear Joan,Kate ,and Dunc Jr. Jan and I are deeply saddened to read of Dunc’s passing but are released that his pain is gone. It was an honour for us to teach in the same school as Dunc and to have worked with him in the coaching of young adults at Eastview. I will never forget his ability to find important information about my teams quickly within the pile that had developed on his desk. With that charming smile he would reach in and proudly say see I told you I could find it. What a wonderful man and leader he was. Sadly missed by Barry and Jan Scully
