Welcome to Calvin and Joan’s;
“your Second Home”
The “Welcome Mat” was always out.
And Joan’s cute “Come-On-in!”
Could Always be heard.
Any visitors’ tale of travail and woe
Got sympathy or prayer
While Joan’s laugh lines –
were sure-fire “wrinkle removers”!
Her heroic response to unbelievable physical challenges -
Was greeted with an: “I’m just peachy!”‘or,
if I was any better - I’d be twins”
But NEVER to ask for a neck brace,
dab of “Voltaren”, or ‘Coffee-warm up”!
So impressive were her awesome knitting projects
And Calvin’s countless offers of “join us for dinner?”
Meanwhile, Music was heard from Calvin’s guitar or organ –
With Joan an eager participant in songs even from the internet
Nothing was needed, but “Boost”, or strawberries brought;
Calvin’s famous fresh “Apple Sauce” shared in season
While Cheesies were her only ‘guilty’ pleasure.
Darren shared “Subs” for supper, ground cherries
from his garden or treats from Tim’s,
And Judy, held in high esteem for her gentle nature,
generous Casseroles, and freshly baked cookies.
Joan’s job description included: being second mom to David;
Course Instructor: “How to live selflessly and complaints–free
(ashamed that took 5 years learn!)
Meanwhile, Joanne would lend out “Dash”
(the friendliest dog in Cumberland Beach) to:
Calvin & Joan’s “Pet Sitting/Sleep-Over Service”
This service had also extended to Darren’s dog ‘Nemo’
(her fav) and now, Dash Jr.
The highlight of life were visits (or Skypes)
from very far-flung children and beloved granddaughter Theo.
Joan’s special memory - great granddaughter Zola’s laughter!
Her Landline messages always ended in:
“Love, Joan”

Condolences from Claire, Andrew, Monty, Eddy and Holly Kinnear. We will all miss visiting Joan, she was a delight and cared so much for our kids, always knitting cute sweaters for them. She and Calvin made Andrew and I feel welcome to the neighbourhood when we first moved in so we are very grateful for that. Our thoughts are with your family right now, and Calvin, please let us know if you need anything at all. With love from the Kinnears

Our condolences to Calvin and his family. We met you 14 years ago and you are the greatest neighbors. Joan was such a delight and really seamed to enjoy Linda's visits and outings when she could. Our hearts go out to you and your family at this time of sorrow.

Calvin and family, sincere condolences. I will always remember our neighbourly front porch visits with this kind woman. I am glad her struggles are over.
