Obituary of Benny Readman

Readman, Benjamin Keith “Benny” Ben went to work on Thursday May 20th 2021 and did not come home, suddenly drowning when the barge he was on, capsized. He will forever be missed by the love of his life (his words), Nicole, his three loving stepchildren (he said he had a thousand reasons not to have children but he accepted this challenge anyway), James (Holli), Denise (Ryan) and Stacey (Brad). Proud and loving Poppa to Nolan and Jacquie (and bragged to all of his buddies). Dear brother to Allan (Karen). Loving and doting son of Mildred (Millie) and Mervin Readman - both predeceased. Beloved lifelong friend and almost brother to Perrie (Geri). He will be dearly missed by many hockey buddies, friends, family, colleagues and especially his little buddy, Clark. Benny was a guy who lived everyday to the fullest and most productive it could be. He could get more “sh** done” (his term) in one weekend, than most could in four. Always leaving time to entertain family and many visitors, and fit in his favourite sport hockey. He had so many wonderful qualities. The gift of gab was one. He would talk to anyone, anywhere, and usually ended learning their story, getting their number, and keeping in touch. He connected with people. Born and raised in Orillia, attended Mount Slaven Public School, Park Street Collegiate Secondary School, then on to learn a trade – carpentry. He started his own contracting business then switched careers and earned - with honours - his diploma in funeral services. After 8 years, he switched back to the field he really excelled at and became Project Manager at Cedar Coast Timber Homes, where he’s been an invaluable member of their team for over 20 years. Cremation has taken place. An intimate grave side service will be held at St. Andrew’s – St. James Cemetery in Orillia. A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at a later date – to be announced. To honour Benny’s life going forward, his family would appreciate donations to the Benny Readman Tradesman Award Fund. This will be awarded annually to a graduating student from Orillia Secondary School going on to pursue post-secondary education in the trades and displays similar characteristics as Benny. Donations to this scholarship may be made by cheque or cash to Nicole directly or through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St E. Orillia (705) 327-0221.
