Flo Pengilly

Obituary of Flo Pengilly

Florence went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Pengilly for 66 years. Flo was born on January 31, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, to Irish immigrants, George Henry and Mary-Elizabeth. She was the sister of George Magee, Arnold Magee, Herbert Magee, Gerald Magee, Vera Stewart, and Helen Magee, all predeceased. Flo was the beloved mother of Gail Lander (Calvin) of Orillia, Mark (Laura) of Schomberg and Daniel (Gay) of Bala. Loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren: Bonna-Lynn (Allan), Scott (Dana), Andrew (Diane), and Tim (Kerry) Gale, Anne-Elizabeth (Ian), Jacalyn, Melissa, Christy (Stephen), Katie (Alex), and David (Anca) Pengilly, and Michael and Cathy (Phil) Lander. Flo also enjoyed her many great-grandchildren, who brought her much joy, laughter and love. Flo married Bill in 1944 and they lived in various areas of Toronto, attending Long Branch Baptist Church for many years. Soon after Bill retired, they moved to Huntsville and spent their winters in Florida. While in Huntsville, they attended Riverside Baptist Church and many summers at Muskoka Bible Centre. Their move to Orillia brought them closer to family and they attended Cornerstone Baptist Church (formerly First Baptist Church, Orillia). Flo loved people and enjoyed sharing the Lord with her family and friends. She loved to knit and share her projects with others, beautiful baby outfits, blankets and dish clothes. She usually sent a person away with a dish cloth or something else to fill their purse or pockets. She was a prayer warrior, lifting up many people and their needs to the Lord. Flo lived her final years at the Atrium, where she enjoyed the residents and staff. Activities, meals, and outings were enjoyable and laughter abounded with Flo along. Thank you to the staff and residents for their care and love for Flo over the last 12 years. Thank you to the nurses, doctors, and staff at OSMH who attended Flo over the last few years and especially during her last 2 ½ months. Visitation will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St. E, Orillia on Thursday, April 21st, 2022, beginning at 12 until the time of the service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Glendale Memorial Gardens, 1810 Albion Road, Etobicoke.
