God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, ‘Peace bethine’.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
Mary you will be missed but not forgotten. Forever in our hearts. Rest in peace my friend.

I want to add my condolences to Mary’s family… I have many fun memories of playing solo (cards) with her. When it was her turn to host, we knew we were in for wonderful food, great deserts and a fun night of cards. Mary was an all around nice person. My sympathies to all of you.

Mary worked on our Food Services team at Camp Couchiching for close to 15 years and in most of those years she was our leader at the helm. She was all hustle-bustle, taught over a hundred young program staff members food service techniques and worked with dozens of food service staff too. She was always thrifty and there was always some kind of tasty soup or casserole made to use up the leftovers. If Mary had a big event or felt short on staff members, I would often walk in the kitchen to find she had recruited family members or local neighbours to lend a hand. Mary also was the keeper of many of our gardens at Camp. Our kitchen in the dining hall is named Mary’s Kitchen in her honour.
Mary was a force of goodness and efficiency. She always called me Jen-Jen. Mary’s pies were unique and delicious. For our 2001 Camp wedding, she handmade pies for over 100 guests including our favourites, pear & cheddar, and rhubarb & peach custard.
Our condolences go out to Mary's friends and families.

I often would come into the kitchen when I was a camper and offer to help Mary. She was a delight to know and inspired my love of cooking.

Mary really lived and showed what it was like to be part of a community. Nobody was too old or young for her to know their name and want to talk to them. She was part of the defining force of the Cooch community. We all were welcome and belonged in her kitchen, garden and at camp. Thanks for all of that Mary.

I have been thinking of her lately. Such sad news- RIP Mary. You were one of a kind- kind hearted and caring, and always willing to teach me new skills. Whether it was in the kitchen, in the garden or even inviting me into your kitchen to learn how to sew my own curtains. You will be missed.

It was a pleasure to work with Mary at the camp. She always had a great sense of humour, genuinely cared for the work she was doing, and was extremely hard working. She will certainly be missed. Condolences to her family.

From T.C. A Camp Couchiching staff member...I actually can't express how sad this makes me, the world lost an amazing woman. Mary taught me everything I know about working in that kitchen. She ran a tight ship but with all the love in the world. I remember being in the kitchen and Mary had just made a joke and I said "Mary you're on fire" and she laughed and I was like no "Mary you are on fire"...the dish towel she had tucked on her waist caught fire and she freaked out...though scary, it brought a good laugh from the 2 of us. So many memories, so many good times, when I think of Camp Couchiching I think of Mary Curtis. Sending love to her family❤️

Dear Heather and family,
I am very sad to hear the passing of your mom. Seeing her picture takes me back to our much younger years of Hanover snowmobile events with hot chocolate and big pots of chili, and summer pig roasts and corn roasts. The good ol’ days when our parents sure knew how to have a good time! Lots of memories for you to reflect back on during this difficult time.
We are thinking about you.
