To Robin and Debbie and all your family, I offer my sincere sympathies on the death of your Mum and my dear friend Norma. I was informed of her passing by another Bell retiree - we all worked together in the Barrie office. Norma drove me to work when I first moved to Orillia from Toronto in 1970 and we became fast friends - I loved her sense of humour, her style, and her "smarts"...she was one of the best managers I ever worked with! Robin, you may remember some crazy attempts at camping with your Mum and me and my younger daughter! I have memories of visits with Norma's Mum & Dad at the farm, and lots of fun at dances at the Udney Community Center, and lots of VERY crazy Bell parties!
I moved back to Toronto in the 80's but we stayed in close touch and visited back and forth whenever possible. We attended each other's retirement parties in the mid-nineties and my partner and I happily attended Norma's marriage to Ed. We celebrated each other's birthdays with cards and calls - Norma was exactly 4 months older than me, and I teased her about being my MUCH older friend. In fact I bought an 80th birthday card just this week and it breaks my heart to know it must go unsent. I love that her Memorial service will be on October 29th - that very special day!
Circumstances, distance and of course Covid has kept us apart for some time, and I was unaware that Norma's health issues had become so serious. I am so sorry to lose her from my life, but I will remember her always. Rest in peace, dear friend.
With love always,
Sharon (Bray) Conway
