My sincere condolences to Marlena's family. Marlena and I were in the same graduating class at Queen's and I was so fortunate to be her floormate in our first year and her friend in the years that followed. While I haven't seen her in two decades I remember her with the greatest fondness--as the written tribute to her makes clear, she was a blessing to everyone in her very wide circle. She was warm, smart, funny and bubbling over with good will. Everyone I knew valued her company and conversation.
It is moving to read about her strong relationship with her family and to recall how proud she was of them and of Orillia. That doesn't happen with a young undergraduate unless the relationships within her family and community are vibrant and loving. It was clear to all of us in those days how much she loved her parents and siblings.
May her soul rest in the light perpetual, and may God bless and comfort all those who grieve for her.

So blessed to have known her and to have been her "Aunt". She was a total delight and a light - and will be incredibly missed by all who knew and loved her - which would be anyone who ever met her or spoke with her. Her particular brand of sunshine is so rare and so special - Donated to the Lighthouse for you (how appropriate) Deerest Won - Love Ant Janet

I remember Marlena vividly and fondly as one of my students at Queen's, and as a research assistant. She was a delightful presence: smart, diligent, responsible, clever, funny. A number of years later she attended a public presentation I did in Toronto, and it was such a joy to see her smiling face again and renew acquaintances, even if briefly. We were in touch a few years ago when I hoped she might attend a Film department reunion, but health matters made that not possible. She's an utter pleasure to remember, even if that memory's now also outlined in the sadness of a loss so young.

My beautiful, sweet, sweet Marlena! I will miss you terribly. My biggest regret is that I didn’t know you longer or better...
Cancer - that nasty thief - brought us together. We shared so much due to that common denominator, but out of that emerged a cherished friendship. Every outing with you, every phone call, walk, opera, show was a delight. The more we got to know each other, the more commonalities we discovered. Every interaction with you made me feel good - sharing laughs, ideas, opinions, books, world events. I wish we could have so many more conversations!
Your warmth and compassion carried me through my darkest days. Your support and enthusiasm for all my detours and digressions meant the world to me. I'll never have another friend like you.
There are so many things that will forever remind me of you, like Carmen, cupcakes, SATC, and your List. I was so lucky to know you. You brought mothing but happiness into my life. I love you and there's a hole in my heart now. I am so grateful for the years of friendship we had.
Rest in peace my beautiful friend.
Love Jill Edmondson

Marlena was pure joy, always smiling, always joking…I looked up to her at school. One of those people you aspire to be like. Marlena Little made an impact, and I feel grateful to have known her. Rest in peace.
