Obituary of Brian John Fowler

Fowler, Brian John "Chucker" It is with profound sadness that we announce that on Wednesday, September 27th 2023, at the age of 64, Brian passed away at his home in Orillia with family and close friends by his side. Faithful husband and best friend of 37 years to Sandra Fowler (nee Greenwell). Loving father of Christopher (Stephanie) and Emma (Jason). Proud grandpa to Jack. Greatly missed by his furry companion, Ted. Cherished son of Rick & Beverley Fowler. Dearly loved brother of Susan and special uncle to her children Brittany and Brooke. Caring uncle to many nephews. Pre-deceased by his devoted grandparents Wallace & Lavena Eaton and Dick & Helen Fowler. Brian will be fondly remembered for his dedication to his family, passion for team sports (always wearing his favourite number 27), and dry sense of humor, always looking to get a rise from someone with his deadpan delivery. Brian spent many decades playing fastball, earning the nickname "Chucker" for his skilled pitching ability. Brian's teammates became his lifelong friends, and he held those friendships close to his heart. Brian attended Wilfred Laurier, Laurentian, and York Universities before beginning his career as a teacher with the Simcoe County School Board. His love of teaching and coaching was apparent, and he proudly displayed school photos and gifts from his students in his home office. After his retirement in 2012 after 30 years of teaching, Brian enjoyed running into old pupils around town and learning what was happening in their lives. Brian formed many great friendships through the years with his teaching colleagues and held them in high regard. Brian wished to thank all of his friends, nurses, and hospital staff who assisted him after being diagnosed with two forms of cancer in early summer. A special thank you to his close friends Jeff and Susan who greatly supported him during his final months, advocating for Brian's wishes and ensuring his final request to be at home with his loved ones came to fruition. His family is forever grateful for your compassion and aid. Cremation has taken place. Per Brian's request, no funeral service will be held. A celebration of Brian's life will occur on Sunday, October 29th at the Brechin Legion (146 Concession Rd 4, Brechin) from 1 to 4 p.m. To commemorate Brian's love for animals and team sports, memorial donations can be made to the Orillia SPCA or Jumpstart for kids. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca. The measure of a man The measure of a man is not determined By his show of outward strength Or the volume of his voice Or the thunder of his actions Or of his intellect or academic abilities It is seen rather in terms of the love that he has For his family and for everyone The strength of his commitments The genuineness of his friendships The sincerity of his purpose The quiet courage of his convictions The fun, laughter, joy and happiness he gives to his family and to others His love of life His patience and his honesty And his contentment with what he has
