Westlane SS had great teachers in my day, and Joan Fanstone was one of the best. Great memories of history class in my 9th grade and again 12th, and then our exciting production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" in May, 1973. Condolences to her family.

Miss Fanstone was one of those teachers that was doing exactly the right thing. I was in her first home room classes. Tenth grade English. She was one of those people you could have a regular conversation with. She was always there to contribute to school life. Good memories! Sometimes they don't seem so long ago.

Joan Fanstone taught me history in the early 1970s at Westlane High School. She instilled in me an interest in history that has lasted my entire life. I have thought of her warmly many times over the years.

Sending out my condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Fanstone. She was a very well liked teacher at Westlane who took an active interest in her students beyond the classroom. She was a superb role model and one of those teachers who made a difference in the lives of the students fortunate enough to have sat in her classroom. Sincerely Heather McIntosh

My sincere condolences to Joan's family. We were fellow travellers on that 'teaching road', which included theatrics, student travel to Britain, summer weekends at the cottage, and regular cultural trips to Toronto. A good friend in those years gone by.

Joan was one of my favourite teachers at Westlane. I have thought of her often over the years She was tough but engaged her students so well. I was one of a pair that she affectionately referred to as “the dynamic duo”. I send my condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
