Obituary of Ruth Catherine Ashe

Ashe, Ruth (nee Ferguson) The family announces with great sorrow Ruth’s passing at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on March 24, 2024, in her 89th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Basil (1996) and survived by her loving children Jamie (Tammy) Ashe of Lively, Janice (Kevin) Mercer of Orillia, and her precious grandchildren Kristen and Erica Ashe, and Matthew and Julie Mercer. Ruth was also predeceased by her parents Chrissie and Angus Ferguson, and her three brothers Allen (Mary Helen) of Kirkland Lake, Bill (Sheila) of New Liskeard and Don of Toronto. Ruth was born in Kirkland Lake, where she resided for 65 years before moving to North Bay. While she thoroughly enjoyed her time in North Bay, Kirkland Lake always held a very special place in her heart. Ruth worked for years as a court recorder, and later at Nelson Construction. She enjoyed spending time with her husband at their cottages, first in Sesekinika, later building a new cottage on Nettie Lake. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing many years with her close friends in their Bridge Club. After living in North Bay for 20 years, she moved on to Retirement Living in Orillia and remained in Orillia for her final years. Ruth had a wonderful life, where she cherished her family and many close friends, who will all miss her dearly. The family would like to thank the staff at the Sundial Lakeview Retirement Residence for making her stay safe and enjoyable. At Ruth’s request, there will not be a public service. The family will have a private gathering in Kirkland Lake to lay her to rest with her husband Basil.
