I was saddened to hear of Ron's passing. He was a true friend and mentor during my years as the Executive Director of the Severn Sound Environmental Association. Ron was the chair and a great supporter of SSEA as Mayor of the Township of Severn and as Mayor of the City of Orillia. His insights and advice were invaluable to me as he helped guide SSEA. He will be missed.
Keith Sherman, Severn Sound RAP Coordinator and Executive Director of SSEA (retired).

I am so sorry for your loss
Ron was a mentor, a friend and he was totally dedicated to his community.
He was always there for me with advice, support and help. He was a very strong supporter of kid’s and senior’s safety. He attended almost every community event I had in this community. He was an outstanding man, he went above and beyond for our community. He was truly a great honour to know him, to work with him and learn from him.
I salute him and his family now with the utmost respect

Community and Media Service Officer

Ron was such a kind and caring man. I remember sometime in the '80's, Ron mentioned to me while I was shopping at his lighting store, that his beloved cat at the business had just vanished. Ron was understandably quite upset by this as we set to work out what might have happened to his feline friend. Coincidentally, we had just found a stray cat and were sheltering it up on 63 Tecumseth Street and I revealed this to him. Ron immediately asked if he could come up to see our visitor for himself and indeed he did see it - that very day. It was a letdown that it wasn't his cat after all, but I remember he complimented us for sheltering it. We were hopeful that his own cat would be found soon enough - if only because it was so wanted. Over the decades, Ron never forgot about his visit to Tecumseth Street in search of his cat. I will never forget it either. This measure of the man buoys me up whenever I reflect upon it - a cherished gift. My sincerest condolences to Ron's family and to his many many friends.

Sending our condolences to you and your family Karen. He was a valued member of our community. He always had a smile and a good story to tell as we chatted throughout the years at our Bayou Park Pig Roasts. He was a great neighbour and would also stop and chat with us when you two were out for a walk. He will be missed. RIP Ron. Love Maureen, Steve and Michelle
