Obituary of Barry Robert Doyle

The family would like to thank Dr. Ho and the efficient, compassionate staff of ICU for their care of Barry. Barry was born in Orillia to Hugh and Blanche (Graham) Doyle, both deceased. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Helen (née McKinnon) married for 56 years; his son Donald and wife Rhonda (Gosselin) and their sons Alex and Mackenzie (partner Mersadese Gardiner and their daughters Madeline and Marcie). Also missed by his daughter Tracy, her husband Darren and their sons Brick and Gunner. He was so proud of his four grandsons. Also saddened by his death are his sisters, Sandra St. Thomas (husband Gerry deceased) and Marlene Gill (husband Dave) and brother-in-law Bruce McKinnon (wife Janice) and nephews, a niece and their families. He will also be dearly missed by many friends, including those at the Orillia Presbyterian Church, OPSEU, the Tim Horton’s coffee club and travelling adventurers. Barry was a counsellor at the Huronia Regional Centre for 22 1/2 years and became a Job Security Officer and Staff Representative for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union for 15 years. He was an Elder at Orillia Presbyterian Church and then became Clerk of Session there for ten years. Barry enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years and then took up golf, which he continued to play throughout his life. He was a sports enthusiast watching hockey, golf, football, soccer, wrestling, car racing and curling as well as cheering on his grandsons in their games of football, ball hockey, soccer, wrestling, darts and ice hockey. Barry was fortunate to have travelled coast to coast in Canada, golfed in the Carolinas, holidayed in Florida, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and cruised the Baltic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and European River cruise. He was known and admired for his sense of humour, integrity, fairness, compassion and willingness to have a good chat with anyone. Following cremation, a Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E. Orillia on Friday November 29th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with one hour of visitation prior from 12 noon. Followed by a reception. A private burial will take place at The Atherley Cemetery.
