When Darlene and I were teens (maybe 18) Helen and Marvin took us to a nightclub in the Rouge Valley area of Scarborough. It was called "Mart Kenney's Ranch". Mart Kenny was a band leader. No booze was served because it wasn't licenced but it was generally accepted that patrons would bring their own. Darlene and I couldn't drink because at that time the drinking age was 21 yrs.-of-age. Helen had a few, Marvin (I think) had one because he was driving. Darlene and I were drinking gingerale pretending. After the show, we drove to a Chinese resraurant in-the-round on Eglington Ave E. near Kennedy. We were seated and the waiter left menus and went to serve others. There was an artificial plant behind Helen. She took her water glass and emptied it in the planter and replaced the water with some lemon gin. We were already laughing, but when the waiter returned, Helen said, "Your water's a little smokey, Sir!" We laughed even harder and had a great night out together.

Mrs. Hamilton (Marvin's mother) was over visiting/babysitting(?) at Cleta Drive. Blair, about 7 yrs old I think, was in the backyard playing with the hose/water full-force when Mrs. H. went into the back. Blair saw her and proceeded to ram the hose up under her dress. Mrs. H. was somewhat hunched over when she walked. Helen later said, "That sure straightened her up!".

My favourite memories Of grandma are no doubt the summers we spent together out at the ranch in Oro: swimming in the pool, checking the pool skimmer every morning to free the frogs that got caught in it, going into town (we never went to Barrie, it was always "into town") for ice cream, along with so many other everyday stuff we did together that made the summers with her so memorable. Heck, even hanging up the laundry on the clothesline was fun with grandma. Rest In Peace grandma, you're with mommy now and aside from her, you were the most important lady in my life!
