Obituary of Arthur Matthews

Matthews: Arthur Ward Peacefully at his home, Arthur Ward Matthews died Saturday October 4, 2014. He was in his 83rd year. Arthur, dear husband for 60 years of Molly (Mary), loving father of Carol Matthews-Kostamo (Jock), Robert (Elizabeth), Barbara (Joe Fragomeni) and Andrew. Grandfather to Cheryl Langeland and Patricia Kostama-Davis and Special Great grandfather to Ryan, Alyssa and Avery. Born March 5 1932 in Toronto, to William and Ira Matthews (predeceased). Brother to Wilma Irwin (predeceased) (Ken) and Patience Moulson (predeceased) (Robert). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Art graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. After ten years in retail he became a Supply Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Upon his retirement Art and his wife enjoyed many years wintering in Florida and spending their summers at the cottage in Honey Harbour. Honey Harbour is Arts' legacy to his family. It is where he grew up and grew old enjoying "Little Paradise". His children, grandchildren and now his great-grandchildren will follow in his footsteps. His family and friends will always remember him as a true gentleman with a kind a gentle soul. At his request, there will be no funeral. Instead, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of his Life to be held on Wednesday October 15th from 2 to 5 pm at Branch 34 Royal Canadian Legion, Orillia. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Arthurs' life. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or MS Society in Arthurs' memory.
