I remember as a small boy my uncle with his sleeves rolled up working on a farmers truck and laughing at some great joke told. I remember sleigh riding down a big hill while my uncle stood at the top ready for his turn on the flying saucer. I remember when he met the love of his life and how giddy he was everyday he was with her. I wasn't too young not to know why. I remember being happy to see him at my fathers funeral. I remember talking to him on the phone not too long ago when he was ill and it seemed like his voice never change from when I was a kid. My uncle maybe past but my memories are forever. Please know our condolences are with you and the family and we are sorry we are unable to be there. love from Sandy and Ray

My Dearest Brother Merv: What an adventure and an honor of having you for a brother! Some adventures I remember of our younger years that Dad told us. Like the time Dad was chopping wood and the woodshed and low and behold a young strapping man decided to ski down the hill behind the house. This young man then flew perfectly onto the top of the woodshed roof and scared the dickens out of Dad. Now dad was likely mad but Merv, he landed a perfect landing and without falling he headed towards the bay smiling from ear to ear. The other special memory I would like to share is the time when Merv decided to construct a harness for one of Dad's bull calf. Not sure why at the time but we all found out soon enough. Now standing with the calf he hooked him up with the new harness he constructed and strapped his skis on and with one slap of the reins he was off. The times you would always sing a tune and thought it was great and then you came home with a guitar at side...the days you worked in Toronto and each time you came home you had a different hat each time. This I believe now was your time of how you got those great stories, riddles, smiles, smirks and laughter. I see it now this was a beginning for you and not an end but to have all remembered to whom you are, were and will always be. When in our thoughts and memories we just need to know you are with us and to remember you are there looking down and keeping us all safe. I'm lucky and honored to have a great brother and a privilege for many to have known you. You are in my heart always and I will speak your name and a story til the next generation carry's them on. I Love You Brother MERV. Sister Carol H.

Dear Aunt Net and family, How sorry we are for all of you and for the many others who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Uncle Merv. He touched our lives in so many wonderful ways. He always managed to look toward the sun so that the shadows would fall behind him. His zest for living was contagious. We shall miss that smile, that love and that story but we will count our blessings for having known such a good soul. Our thoughts are with you!

The world has lost one super-duper guy and a great story teller. Were all those "fish stories" really true?? As a youngster, I recall Uncle Merv used to show us how he could "sew" his fingers together, and how his fingers would move back and forth on the "thread". Then, he would tighten the thread so all fingers would be as one. I shall miss the many jokes he shared by e-mail, as well as the great jokes he could tell. Who is going to send me "blonde jokes" now?!?! Love and Hugs to all of you, and treasure the memories. XO
