Dave was a wise, compassionate, honourable, and inspiring neighbour. I will miss him. He always brightened my day, and inspired me with the way he treated me, his friends, and his customers. I will miss our talks, his laughter, and his sage advice. A frequent topic of conversation was family, especially his children, and the pride and love he felt for them. We often spoke of the challenges of being self-employed. I joked that being self-employed means that my boss is a jerk. He laughed in agreement. But then he talked about how a good businessman assumes responsibility for employees, customers and suppliers. To be self-employed does not mean added freedom. Rather it means that you are working for everyone else. I am convinced that that is the very reason why he did it. He could be cynical with a twinkle in his eye, and could complain without seeming bitter. But I could never be cynical about him. He once said that he would prefer to be taken advantage of than to treat anyone badly, and that this philosophy always worked out well for him in the long run. He loved being there for others. I am so very grateful that he was there for me. The world is a better place because of him.

In reading the condolences, it's clear that David was a special man, truly loved by his Family and friends. Dad, I can't thank you enough for helping me become the woman & mother that I am today. Everything I am and know I owe to you! You were my rock and the foundation of this family.
