My golden Retriever "Munchie" and I visited Jim Peachey every week at Soldiers' Memorial. I know he looked forward to our regular Tuesday afternoon visits as much as we did. He was particularly taken with my dog, and Munchie (all 90 pounds of him) loved Jim as well. We had an elaborate session, with Jim carefully unwrapping biscuits he squirreled away in his bed stand for each occasion. My Therapy Dog was thrilled, of course, and could hardly wait to get to Jim's room at the end of the hall for our visit. Mr. Peachy told us many stories of his love for other canine friends from days past as he stroked Munchie and talked to him. Jim also asked us to visit his lovely wife at Leisureworld in Orillia, as he said she loved dogs too. Over the past few months we brought Jim regular reports of our visits with her every week. I know he missed her terribly. Jim always insisted Munchie should work for his treats, and put him through each one of his special tricks - encouraging the dog to 'shake a paw'; 'wave' with his right and left paws; 'lie down and sit up' several times; 'sit up and make pretty' and 'roll-over' whenever possible, bashing into the furniture and clattering around. All the while, Munchie drooled in anticipation of the coming treats. He never gets treats at the Hospital - this was their special time. I felt privileged to be part of this ritual. Yesterday when we went to visit, something was different and Munchie refused to go into Mr. Peachey's room. As we went down the hall, we were told the sad news. Munchie just kept looking back, as if he expected to see Jim calling him for treats and the big show. To say we are both sad and sorry for your loss doesn't begin to cover it. We have both lost a dear friend, and are the poorer for it. We will miss Jim's good humour and gentle wit, his cheerfulness in the face of pain and sometimes suffering as well. I wish we could be with you at the memorial service in Timmons. We will hold him and you in our thoughts. I believe Jim and Munchie shared love and understanding - you see my dog is eleven years old and has cancer as well. Munchie hasn't much time left, but he still loves to visit, and as long as I can, I'll keep taking on his Therapy visits. After that, I know James Peachey will meet Munchie on the Rainbow bridge - and they will play together again. Maureen & Munchie Watt Saint John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program,Barrie/Orillia

I am so sorry to hear the death of Jim. May his soul rest in peace. I remember seeing Jim everyday as he was my neighbor living across from me. He was such a interesting and friendly person to be around with as he always tell me stories about the past. He also helps me put air in my bike tires when ever I am using my bike and now, I don't know who to ask now. I am proud to have known a friend who is a sweet, gentle and caring person. In deepest sympathy, Christian Sam
