Obituary of Geoffrey William Campey

Geoffrey William Campey Geoff passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2017, age 92. Geoff was born on October 5, 1924, son of William Richard Campey and Florence Emma Parker. He grew up in the London suburb of Wembley, and was predeceased by his older brother Norman. His education was cut short by World War II, where he served in the British Navy. After the war, he went to work in the banking system, where he met his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Jeanne ("Betty") Campey. They were married in 1950,and two years later moved to Toronto, Canada. Geoff worked in the International Department of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce until his retirement in 1987. He and Betty had returned to England shortly before his retirement, after which they enjoyed twelve years of life in the English countryside before returning to Canada in 1998. They lived in the Big Cedar Acres retirement community until his death. Betty predeceased Geoff in 2014. Geoff's financial experience was reflected in his community involvement, where he played a role as Treasurer of a variety of community organizations. His dry sense of humor, his stoicism, his fierce "Britishness" and his skill in woodworking stayed with him through his life. He is survived, and missed, by his sons John (partner Jefferson Guzman) and Stephen (partner John Nagy), who appreciate the support of friends and family, particularly dad's 'best friend and honorary daughter' Tracey Park.
