You were my best friend growing up.
You taught me to bake, how to take care of my babies (dolls), always had a hand to hold.
You were my Nana but so much more.
Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and The Cat Who are some of the mystery novels you introduced me to and I devoured over the years. Mysteries are my favourite because they were yours.
Murder She Wrote, Law and Order and Magnum PI were our staple shows. We'd watch all kinds of crazy suspenseful, mystery thrillers together and LOVED it.
Toronto and Florida will always remind me of you. Blue jays and cardinals would come flitting through the trees in your front and backyard in Leaside, you would point them out and be so excited to see them.
When you could, we would walk the beach in Florida and in the early morning pick out seashells. I kept the tradition going after it was too hard for you to walk but you'd help lay out my shells and go through them with me.
Niagara Falls was yours and grandpa's easy go-to mini vacation spot, we have funny memories on Clifton Hill. Remember Kyle and the haunted house? It was his first time and I'm pretty sure last time in a haunted house.
The butterfly conservatory is one of my favourite places, we experienced butterflies landing on us. It was so beautiful, butterflies will always remind me of you.
Rice crispies, apple crumble, tuna casserole, shepherd's pie, cucumbers and vinegar, shortbread cookies, fish & chips with malt vinegar are just SOME of the foods that will always remind me of you.
Garage sales, early mornings, rose bushes, birds, butterflies, Red Rose tea with milk and sugar, Betty-Boop, oldie tunes, seashells, street cars, pape ave/Danforth, The Toronto Maple Leafs, reader's digest, loading/unloading the dishwasher, Christmas and squirrels are other things that will always remind me of you.
You were an artist. You loved to sketch. I loved seeing your sketches and was always surprised by how good they were!
You also were an archival researcher in another life you did this as a career. You spent hours upon hours doing research on your family tree, placing all your papers out on the floor, a total scholar at heart. I was proud of you for taking on that project and loved to hear about your family's history and see the old documents that you had discovered in your research.
We have so many memories and stories. "Count your blessings" is something you would say among other sayings. I have to feel and be blessed to have you. I miss you so much, not one day goes by where I don't think about you.
I will love you forever and always.
Love you,
Cassandra
