Obituary of Hugh Harper McLachlan

McLachlan, Hugh Harper It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh McLachlan announces his peaceful passing in his 89th year on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia, Ontario. Hugh was born in 1933 in Dumfries, Scotland and came to Canada in his teens. Hugh was a standout soccer goalkeeper and had dreams of the professional ranks in Scotland before moving to Canada. His love of soccer continued for many years in his career at Kodak Canada where he was a championship goalkeeper on the men's team. Hugh graduated from Parkdale Collegiate and started his working life at International Harvester in London, ON. Hugh soon took a job with Kodak Canada in Mount Dennis, ON where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring. Hugh married Sheila Stuart in 1960. Before they met, Hugh caught Sheila's eye as the boy in high school with the flaming red hair. They raised their three sons in Downsview, ON. In 1991, Hugh and Sheila moved to Orillia, ON. Hugh was passionate about photography, sports, the Toronto Argonauts and Maple Leafs, soccer, travelling, and the Ontario Model Soldiers Society where he won medals at competitions in both Canada and the U.S. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Isabella. Hugh will be greatly missed by his sons Stuart, Gregg (Dana), Andrew (Shawna) and granddaughter Ava. Cremation has taken place and due to Covid-19, there will be no public gathering at this time. The family gratefully requests that memorial donations be made to Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital or St. James Anglican Church in Orillia.
