Dear Tante Bertha; You were always kind and loving to all of us. I remember being your flower girl when you got married. You were the one that taught Francy & myself how to bake cookies when we lodgeered in the 60's at the Bolton farm. I'm glad that we had fun together over all the years. So sad to hear the news of your mum's passing yesterday, it has been a tough battle for all of you during this time. The imminent news of your mum's illness and hospitalization these last months was upsetting and life changing on so many levels, and we all prayed that she would recover, normalcy restored, and that miracles would bless the outcome of this story.
By the sounds of it, she fought a good fight for all of you, as a true mum would, not wanting to let down her family,and she did it with dignity, courage and grace, and God saw fit to bestow peace and freedom to her from her suffering. It was not the outcome we had all hoped for, but God in his mercy called her soul's work to heaven in his divine timing, which is always perfect in its own right for the situation at hand. I am sure she heard all your loving voices by her bedside over these last poignant weeks that helped her through her battle, and made her aware of how very much she was loved by all of you, and surely must have left her with a knowing peace that all was as it should be.
On behalf of our Lipman family, we hope you all know that we are side by side with you in this grieving journey. It makes us all realize the beautiful fragility of life, the core dynamics of love and family over time and circumstances. Our thoughts turn to the precious memories of all the years, and the lovely, gentle soul of your mum that gave us all so much in terms of kindness, respect fairness, humility, joy, love, and the quiet dignity she bore as a fine human being to grace this earth.
The memory of your mum that stands out for me is seeing her on the farm in Bolton, as the absolute undisputed center of the family unit, effortlessly as she seemed to do it all, serving koolaid for us kids, dutch rookworst and cadetjes, on picnic blankets under the big maple tree in the front yard, with the backdrop the hum of crickets, cows and lots of Dutch gezelichheid. She always seemed so calm, never hurried, like she inherently understood what was really important all along, and she knew how to smell the roses of life along the way, It was to me, a memory of pure childhood bliss - secure, special and all encompassing as the family unit we had, together, sharing and caring in each other's daily lives.
Going forward, in the difficult and sad times ahead, we wish you all strength, courage, hope, peace and gratitude that you have all done the utmost for her. She knows it, and now she is watching out for all of you, to make the circle of life complete. We can truly honor her life and her legacy by consciously adopting and carrying within us the very qualities that she exemplified in her own life - that of kindness, gentleness, and humility - the very essence of what love really entails. I am imagining that God in all his mercy, in greeting her in Heaven, would have raised both his hands as a welcoming gesture to embrace her, saying:
" WELL DONE, MY DEAR BERTHA, WELCOME TO YOUR HEAVENLY HOME .IT WILL BE MY ULTIMATE PLEASURE TO OFFER YOU THE SUN, THE MOON, AND ALL THE LUCKY STARS THAT NOW SHINE FOR YOU FOREVER AND EVER"

My deepest sympathy to Carl and the family on Bertha's passing. As members of the Washago Seniors Club, Bertha and I were often together, either on the same bowling team or attending some of the club's various functions. She always seemed to enjoy these outings and it was a pleasure to be in her smiling, upbeat company. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
