It was a pleasure to work with Murray for thirty-two years. We sure had our days of laughter and disagreements, but overall he was always fair. May God be with his family at this very difficult time and may he rest in peace.

I am saddened to learn of Murray's passing. My sincere condolence to his family at this difficult time. I would like to share my fond memories of Murray: He had been very nice to me while I was working under his leadership at the Toronto Star in the Composing Room. I was a new member of the Composing Room family at the time. One day I was running late for work. After I parked my car (at the unpaved parking lot on the spot where a multimillion dollar condominium is being built now next to Captain John's floating restaurant), I jumped out of the car and was about to slam the door close. All of a sudden, I heard a voice shouting "stop". I turned around and saw this handsome gentleman running toward my direction while waving his hands. I frozed for a brief moment. As he got closer, I realized this handsome gentleman was none other than our own Murray Thompson. He said: "Young lady, you need to turn the engine off first!!" In those days, the car doors can be locked even if the engine was still running. I felt totally embarrassed while he was laughing his head off kindheartedly. I thanked him for being there to save my day at the crucial moment. A bonus being that I was excused for being late because he was the supervisor!!

Thompson Family: I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your father, husband of Murray Thompson. I did not know him that well, but when I did meet him , he seemed to be a very gentle soul, distinguished and kind. I know he will be missed. It was nice that he got the chance to enjoy the things in life that he loved. To Margo and the family, if you need anything or just a shoulder to cry on do not hesitate to call. I will pray for you and your family.
